Moving to Santa Fe Bunny Terry November 6, 2026
The first full weekend of November is one of my favorite times in Santa Fe. The cottonwoods along the river have gone gold, the evenings are crisp, and the city gets back to its real rhythm: art, music, history and long dinners with friends.
This weekend has a little of everything. There's a runway made of recycled treasures, a celebration of the Harvey Girls, Swiss alphorns two blocks from the Plaza, and one of the great filmmakers of our time on the Lensic stage. The forecast is dry all three days, with highs in the mid to upper 50s and nights near freezing, so bring a warm layer. Here's how I'd spend it.
This is the country's oldest and largest recycled art market. More than 100 artists turn discarded materials into jewelry, wall art, furniture and wearable pieces. Friday night's Trash Fashion and Costume Contest is a Santa Fe tradition, and it usually sells out. If you come back over the weekend, it's a great place to start your holiday shopping with one-of-a-kind gifts. Festival details and tickets
This year marks 150 years of the Fred Harvey Company and 100 years of Route 66 and the Indian Detours. Two afternoons of talks cover the Harvey Girls, architect Mary Colter and the Santa Fe Railway, the people and places that shaped how the world first saw the Southwest. The weekend ends with a Foodie Dinner at La Fonda on the Plaza. Get tickets
This Emmy-nominated comedian can switch between dozens of character voices in one breath, and she turns her own life into some of the most original stand-up around. Plan on a nightcap downtown afterward. Lensic tickets
The German producer and visual artist makes dreamy, melodic electronic music. It's a natural fit for Meow Wolf's otherworldly concert space and a lovely way to start the weekend. Get tickets
The Dixon Studio Tour started in 1982 and is the longest continually running studio tour in New Mexico. You can walk through the orchards and adobe studios of the Embudo Valley and meet painters, potters, weavers and woodworkers in their own spaces. Saturday is forecast to be dry, so it's a beautiful day for the drive. Tour map and artists
This guitar duo from Mexico City plays with so much speed and fire that it sounds like a full band. Their mix of flamenco, rumba and rock is pure joy, and the Lensic is an intimate room to hear it in. Tickets are going fast. Lensic tickets
The star of TV's The Carbonaro Effect brings his new live show, full of mind-bending illusions and big laughs, to a stage just north of town. If you love a good "how did he do that?" moment, this is your night out. Buffalo Thunder tickets
You don't often hear this in the high desert. The Alphorn Association of North America is holding its first Santa Fe festival, and the long wooden Swiss horns fill the morning two blocks from the Plaza. Pair it with a stroll downtown and a late brunch. Festival information
The legendary filmmaker comes to the stage to talk about his life and work. That includes Ghost Elephants, his new documentary about a biologist's search for descendants of the largest elephant ever recorded. It's a rare chance to hear one of cinema's great storytellers in person. Lensic tickets
Brothers Jack Torrey and Page Burkum sing sweet, close harmonies that call to mind the Everly Brothers, and country songwriter Margo Cilker opens. The retro Marigold Room is a true listening room, made for a mellow Sunday night. Hotel Glorieta
