Next July at the Santa Fe Opera Is Being Seated This Winter

Bunny Terry October 29, 2026

The Santa Fe Opera campus is closed to visitors from September through June. Even so, the box office has a lot happening this fall. Renewals for the 2027 season close on Saturday, October 31. Subscriptions get seated in November, single tickets in December and everything left over in January. By the time the snow is gone from the Sangre de Cristos, most of the seat map for the company's 70th season will already be set.

Las Campanas sits about ten miles northwest of the Plaza, a short drive from the Opera's hill. For anyone here who goes to the Opera, the summer evening starts on a quiet weekday in late autumn, with a phone call or a login.

Saturday Is the Line, and Friday Is the Last Phone Day

The Opera publishes its 2027 seating timeline on its Box Office & Theater page:

  1. October 31, 2026. Deadline to renew subscriptions.
  2. November 2026. Subscriptions are seated in order of purchase date and contribution level.
  3. December 2026. Single tickets are seated in order of purchase date and contribution level.
  4. January 2027. Remaining tickets are seated in the order they were received.

Off-season box office hours are short. From September through June, phone sales run Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mountain Time. October 31 is a Saturday, so Friday, October 30, is the last day to reach a person by phone before the deadline. If you held a subscription in 2026, you can also renew through the subscriber-account link on the subscriptions page.

Two Keys Decide the Order

The Opera put tickets for 2027 on sale back in May, when it announced the season. Many buyers have been waiting since then for an actual seat. The timeline shows why. Buying a ticket and getting a seat assigned are separate steps, and the second one runs on two factors: when you bought, and how much you have given.

The giving side is published. The Opera's donation page lists these levels and some of the benefits that come with them:

  • Donor, $150+. Opera Shop discount card and a listing in the program book.
  • Contributor, $300+. Adds four admissions to Apprentice Scenes rehearsals.
  • Supporter, $600+. Adds a season poster and program book on request.
  • Partner's Council, $1,500+. Adds reserved parking, waived ticket exchange fees and two dress rehearsal admissions.
  • National Council, $3,500+. Adds Wyncote Opera Club access, preferred parking and four dress rehearsal admissions.
  • Patrons Council, $5,000+. The first level to list Priority Seating, along with premium parking and ten dress rehearsal admissions.
  • Benefactors Council, $10,000+, Directors Council, $25,000+ and Producers Council, $50,000+ follow above that.

So $5,000 is the first level where Priority Seating appears on the benefit list. It also explains why the November and December rounds mention contribution level at all. These are the Opera's published benefits. Whether a gift makes sense for your household is a separate decision, and your accountant or financial advisor is the right person to help with it.

What a Renewal Actually Holds

The subscription page says a fixed-date package gives "the same excellent seats year after year" and the deepest discount. Create Your Own packages have a smaller discount and let you pick your dates. The Opera advertises savings of up to 25% off regular ticket prices and lets you pay in up to three installments.

Your seat carries over from year to year only with a fixed-date package. Create Your Own gives you more freedom with dates, but those seats go back into the pool at the end of the season. A few smaller costs also come with the season. For 2027, handling fees are $8 per ticket on single-ticket orders and $18 per package. Exchanges need at least 48 hours' notice. Create Your Own and single tickets cost $10 per ticket to exchange. The donation page lists waived exchange fees as a benefit starting at Partner's Council.

The Season Being Seated

The Opera's 70th season announcement, dated May 12, 2026, lists 38 performances from July 2 through August 28, 2027. Here is the schedule by opening date:

  • July 2. Puccini's Turandot, back in Santa Fe for the first time since 2005. The staging is adapted from a production that started in Bari, Italy, directed by Paul Curran.
  • July 3. Rossini's The Barber of Seville, a revival of the company's 2022 production directed by Stephen Barlow.
  • July 17. A new production of Mozart's Così fan tutte, directed by Amy Lane in her company debut.
  • July 24. Janáček's Kátya Kabanová, directed by David Pountney, with Music Director Harry Bicket conducting.
  • July 31. The American premiere of Of One Blood, with music by Brett Dean and a libretto by Heather Betts. It is a co-commission with the Bavarian State Opera.
  • August 15 and 22. Apprentice Scenes, followed by an Apprentice Gala Concert conducted by Erina Yashima.

The same release says Bicket's contract runs through the 2028 season. It also names Iván López Reynoso Principal Conductor starting in 2027. His first assignment in that role is the Barber revival, the same opera he conducted for his American debut here in 2022.

Of One Blood is the middle opera in a three-year series of American premieres. The first was Lili Elbe this past summer, which premiered on Saturday, August 1, according to the Santa Fe New Mexican's Pasatiempo. The paper also reviewed the premiere. The third is Francisco Coll's Enemigo del pueblo in 2028, based on Ibsen.

Opening weekend has its own seating to think about. The opening weekend page lists two opening-night dinners at $295 per person and a garden brunch at $225 per person, from July 2 to 4, 2027. Any reservation includes a complimentary backstage tour. That tour matters because the regular backstage tours only run in summer. The 2026 tours ran Monday through Saturday at 9 a.m. from June 1 to September 4, at $10 for adults and free for ages 6 to 22.

One Evening on the Hill Before Then

Between now and July, the Special Events page lists one gathering on campus. The Winter Gala is on Saturday, December 19, at Stieren Orchestra Hall. The evening starts with a champagne reception at 5 p.m., then dinner and a performance at 6 p.m., then dessert and dancing at 8 p.m. The gala raises money for the Apprentice Programs. Individual tickets cost $1,000, $2,500 or $5,000. Guests 40 and under can buy $500 tickets, and tables of ten start at $10,000.

The hall is a three-story, 12,650-square-foot building from 2001. It gives the orchestra a place to rehearse, and it has also hosted lectures, recitals and events from community arts groups. On December 19 the room fills with the people who pay for the apprentices, the same singers and technicians whose staged evening is on the calendar for August 15.

The Same Week Inside the Gates

The Opera's deadline lands in the same week Las Campanas closes out its own summer. The Las Campanas Owners Association's public calendar put its annual meeting and board meeting on Wednesday, October 28, by Zoom. It also lists a free large-item pickup for residents with Waste Management service on Friday, October 30, starting at 7 a.m. The full rules for what can go out are on the residents' side of the Owners Association site.

For members, the Club's warm-weather spots are done for the year. The Torreon Portal, the covered patio off the 9th hole of the Sunrise Course, and the Spa Café both run from May through September, weather permitting. The Log Cabin next to the Equestrian Center has no seasonal window on the Club's homepage. Membership at The Club at Las Campanas is by invitation.

Next on the calendar is the ski season. Ski Santa Fe lists its season as November 26, 2026 through April 4, 2027, and still marks the opening date as tentative. By Thanksgiving Day, if the snow comes, the November subscription round should be well underway, and the chairlifts will be turning.

Once your 2027 seats arrive, you may be planning more than five nights at the Opera. You might be timing guest visits around Turandot, or deciding which side of the property gets the evening light for the summer. The Bunny Terry Group knows how Las Campanas runs through the year, from the closed season to opening night. Start your Santa Fe story with us.
